Connect Magic Lineup to Claude or ChatGPT

A setup guide for coaches — no developer experience needed. Last updated: September 18, 2026.

Once you connect, Claude or ChatGPT can look up your team's schedule, roster, and playing-time minutes, and can write a practice plan or a game plan that shows up in Magic Lineup ready to run. Nothing it writes happens on its own — every plan is something you tap to accept in the app.

What you'll need

• Magic Lineup installed on your phone, signed in to a team you coach (an assistant coach works too)
• An active Lineup Pro subscription, so the tools actually run instead of asking you to subscribe
• Claude (claude.ai, the desktop app, or Claude Code) or ChatGPT with developer mode turned on
• Your phone within reach — you'll need it partway through setup

Your connector URL

Both Claude and ChatGPT connect to the same address:

https://lineup-connect.parent-ai.com/mcp

You'll paste this once, during setup, into whichever app you're connecting. (Testing through TestFlight? See the note near the bottom of this page — you'll need a different URL.)

How sign-in works

There's no username or password here. Magic Lineup uses a pairing code instead, generated from your phone — this is unusual, so here's what to expect: partway through setup, a Magic Lineup page opens in your browser asking for a code. You get that code from the app itself, under Settings → AI apps. The code is 8 characters, works only once, and expires after 10 minutes — so don't generate it until the browser page is actually asking for it.

Connecting Claude

1. On claude.ai or the Claude desktop app, go to Settings → Connectors → Add custom connector.
2. Paste the URL above (https://lineup-connect.parent-ai.com/mcp) and select Connect.
3. A Magic Lineup page opens asking for a pairing code. Switch to your phone, open Magic Lineup → Settings → AI apps, and generate a code.
4. Type that code into the page that's waiting on the other device.
5. You'll land on a consent screen listing exactly what Claude is asking to do. Review it and select Approve.
6. Done. Try asking Claude: "What's on my schedule this week?"

Claude's Free plan allows one custom connector, so this is the one to use it on. Pro, Max, Team, and Enterprise plans all work too.

Connecting ChatGPT

ChatGPT needs one extra step first — turning on developer mode, which is what lets it use custom connectors like this one at all.

1. In ChatGPT, go to Settings → Connectors → Advanced and turn on Developer mode.
2. Back in Connectors, choose Create connector (or Add connector) and paste the same URL: https://lineup-connect.parent-ai.com/mcp.
3. A Magic Lineup page opens asking for a pairing code. On your phone, open Magic Lineup → Settings → AI apps and generate one.
4. Type the code into the page, then review and approve the consent screen.
5. Done. Try asking ChatGPT: "Who's below the playing-time floor this season?"

This is more setup than Claude today, and it stays a little more involved afterward too: the first time ChatGPT wants to write a plan or add something to your schedule in a conversation, it shows you exactly what it is about to send and asks you to approve it. You can tell it to remember that choice for the rest of that conversation, but a new conversation asks again.

What it can do

• Tell you what's on the schedule this week
• Tell you who's below the playing-time floor, and how many minutes each kid has gotten
• Write a practice plan that lands in the app with a built-in timer, ready to run at practice
• Build a pre-game plan — a starting lineup and a substitution schedule — that the app stages for you to step through
• Read back what actually happened after a game: who played, how long, and how the plan held up

What it can't do

• It never runs a game or makes a substitution on its own — every plan is something you tap to accept in the app first
• It never deletes anything
• It never sees other parents' contact details
• It doesn't work without Lineup Pro — connecting is free, but the tools require a subscription

Things to try

Once you're connected, here are a few prompts to start with:

• "Plan Tuesday's practice, 60 minutes, we're working on first touch, Maya and Leo are out."
• "Who's below the playing-time floor this season?"
• "Build Saturday's game plan against the Tigers — everyone at or above 50%, and Ali just came back from injury so ease him in."
• "How many minutes has each kid gotten so far this season?"
• "How did Tuesday's practice go?"
• "What's on my schedule this week?"

Troubleshooting

• "This pairing code has expired." Codes are only good for 10 minutes and work once. Go back to Magic Lineup → Settings → AI apps and generate a fresh one, then type it in right away.
• "Lineup Pro is required." The connection is working — you just don't have an active subscription yet. Subscribe in the app under Settings → Lineup Pro, then ask again.
• The connector won't connect at all. Double-check you pasted the full URL, including https:// and /mcp at the end, with nothing extra before or after.
• No teams are showing up. Make sure you paired using the same Magic Lineup account you coach with — a pairing code only unlocks what that account can already see in the app.
• I want to disconnect. Two ways to do it, and either one works: in Magic Lineup, go to Settings → AI apps and disconnect the app from there — this revokes access right away. Or remove the connector from inside Claude's or ChatGPT's own settings.

What data reaches Claude or ChatGPT

When you connect, Claude or ChatGPT can see your team, roster names, schedule, playing-time minutes, stats, and any plans you ask it to write — the same information you already see in the app. It never sees other parents' contact details, invite codes, or billing information; those stay on our servers and are never exposed through the connector.
