Magic Lineup Adds Flag Football and Hockey

Magic Lineup started as a soccer and basketball app. It now covers flag football and hockey too, with the same fair-minutes tracking, the same one-tap rotation, and formats built for each sport.

Coaches asked for this. Flag football and hockey both run on the same problem soccer and basketball do: a coach with a bench full of kids and a clock that doesn't stop for mental math. Free substitution during play, timed periods, and a fairness question every parent eventually asks. If your app already solved that for soccer, it should solve it for these too.

Flag football: 5v5 and 7v7

NFL FLAG is the largest youth flag football program in the country, and flag football joins the Olympics in 2028. Most youth leagues play 5v5; older brackets often move to 7v7. Magic Lineup supports both, with no positions to assign at the youth level. Set your roster, and the app tracks who's in and who's due to come on.

Live events for flag football: touchdown, 1-point conversion, 2-point conversion, interception, sack, flag pull, and penalty. Each one is a tap during the game, logged with a timestamp, no halftime data entry.

Hockey: 4v4, 5v5, and 6v6

Line changes are the original equal-shifts problem. USA Hockey registers well over half a million youth players, and every one of their coaches has faced the same bench math flag football and soccer coaches face. Magic Lineup's hockey mode covers 6v6 full ice, 5v5 half ice, and 4v4 small-area games, each with its own format and default period length. The goalie has a fixed spot and does not rotate through the fairness math; defense and forward lines do.

Live events for hockey: goal, shot on goal, penalty, and injury. Log a goal and the app opens a short window to tap the assist, same as it already does for soccer.

What stays the same

The fairness floor is unchanged: coaches set a target between 33 and 75 percent of game time, 50 percent by default, and Magic Lineup enforces it the same way for all four sports. Drag-and-drop subs, the undo toast, the lock-screen game clock, and QR co-coach invites all work the same way for flag football and hockey as they always have for soccer and basketball.

The takeaway

Every kid plays, and the team still wins. That was true for soccer and basketball, and it's true for flag football and hockey now. Same clock, same fairness math, two more sports.
